Kayem Recalls 1.58 Million Pounds of Hot Dogs and Bacon

āš‘ Recall alertOctober 31, 2026

A grocery store refrigerator case stocked with packages of hot dogs, bacon and sliced deli meat.

Kayem Foods is recalling about 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry, including hot dogs, bacon and deli meat, according to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, as reported by NBC Select. The agency says the products may have been exposed to unsafe temperatures during storage. It says there are no confirmed reports of illness.

The short version

Product: Hot dogs, bacon, sausage, turkey breast, ham, brisket and corned beef

Sold at: Retail and food service locations nationwide; Walmart and Stop & Shop said some stores carried it, per Today

Hazard: Possible temperature abuse during storage

Reported illnesses: None confirmed, per USDA

What to do: Don't eat it; throw it away or return it

What's affected

According to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, Kayem Foods is recalling approximately 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products. Coverage of the announcement names hot dogs, bacon, sausage, turkey breast, ham, brisket and corned beef among the items. The agency says the products carry one of three inspection marks: "EST. M/P 7839," "EST. P 20935A" or "EST. M 9520." Reports differ on how many individual products are covered, so check the full official list for the exact items, sizes and dates before deciding whether something in your fridge is included.

The agency says the problem surfaced when a retail customer complained on Oct. 1 that product arrived warm on delivery, as relayed by NBC Select and other outlets. Kayem said a cooling system malfunction at one of its warehouses caused temperature deviations, according to CBS Boston and Today. The USDA says the products may have experienced temperature abuse during storage. The agency says there are no confirmed reports of illness linked to the products. It says shipments went to retail and food service locations nationwide and to Hong Kong.

What the company says

Kayem announced the recall on Oct. 16, and the USDA posted it the next day, according to coverage of the notice. President and CEO Matt Monkiewicz said: "Out of an abundance of caution, we are undertaking this voluntary recall." The company also said "Our management team takes full responsibility" and that it has "learned from and corrected the issue." Today reported that the USDA does not list specific stores or states, though Walmart and Stop & Shop have said some of their stores sold the products.

What to do if you bought it

The USDA says not to eat the recalled products. Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Check packages for the inspection marks "EST. M/P 7839," "EST. P 20935A" or "EST. M 9520."

Kayem lists customer service at 800-426-6100 and info@kayem.com, and posts the recall on its own website.

The USDA says there are no confirmed illnesses so far. The full product list is posted in the agency's recall notice.
