What the case was about
The case is Landsheft v. Apple Inc., filed March 19, 2025, in federal court in Northern California, according to ClassAction.org. The plaintiffs claimed Apple's ads promised Siri features powered by Apple Intelligence that iPhone buyers did not get on time. Apple denies the allegations, and ClassAction.org's page says the settlement includes no finding of liability. The court granted preliminary approval on July 17, 2026, according to ClassAction.org. A final approval hearing has not been confirmed by a source reviewed for this post.
According to ClassAction.org, the settlement covers U.S. residents who bought an iPhone 16, 16e, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max in the United States between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025. The phone must have been bought for a purpose other than resale. Claims opened September 21, 2026. Engadget reported that online claims require the iPhone's serial number, which appears under Settings, then General, then About. Claims can also be filed by mail.
The money
ClassAction.org says a valid claim can receive a pro rata payout of $25 per eligible iPhone. The amount can go up or down depending on how many valid claims are filed, and it is capped at $95 per device.
