Casefile Case 50, Jennifer Pan: The Home Invasion That Wasn't What It Seemed

November 8, 2010. Markham, Ontario. Armed men storm the Pan family home in a quiet suburb. Bich Ha Pan is shot dead. Her husband, Hann, is left with a serious head wound and somehow survives. Their daughter Jennifer is found upstairs, tied to a banister, and calls 911. It looked like a random home invasion, but detectives weren't so sure.
Casefile's anonymous Australian host spends more than two and a half hours on this one, and fans regularly rank it among the show's best. Released in April 2017, Case 50 walks through the investigation step by step: the 911 call, the police interviews, the phone records, and a family life far more complicated than it looked from the street. There are no jokes and no filler, just the evidence laid out piece by piece until the floor drops out from under you.
The courtroom story still isn't finished. Four people were convicted of first-degree murder in 2015. In April 2025, the Supreme Court of Canada ordered new murder trials for all four, ruling that the jury had been improperly instructed, while upholding their attempted murder convictions. Then, in March 2026, came a guilty plea to manslaughter that rewrote the ending of this case.
