D.C. Man, 18, Charged in Killing of Two Youths
An 18-year-old Washington, D.C., man has been charged with first-degree murder while armed in the shooting deaths of two boys, ages 12 and 14, outside a convenience store in the city's Northeast quadrant.
Antonio Terry was arrested Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, and charged Monday, Oct. 26, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced, joined by interim Metropolitan Police Department Chief Jeffery Carroll. The victims were Tyale Coates, 14, and Mhilo Young, 12.
According to court documents, at about 3:27 p.m. on April 14, 2026, a stolen black Honda Accord pulled up to the entrance of the parking lot at the Circle 7 Express store at 740 Kenilworth Avenue NE. Three masked males got out, opened fire on people in the lot, then got back in the car and fled. The boys were outside a food truck in the lot during their spring break. Tyale died at the scene. Mhilo was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died the next morning.
"We believe at this time that it was a targeted shooting," Mayor Muriel Bowser said in April. Prosecutors have not said publicly whether Terry is accused of being one of the three shooters or what the motive may have been.
Judge Heide Hermann found probable cause and ordered Terry held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 9, 2026. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Carson and Yasmin Emrani are prosecuting the case.
No attorney for Terry has commented publicly. A criminal charge is an allegation, and Terry is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating. The Nov. 9 hearing is the next scheduled court date.
