Two Men Charged in 2019 Cold Case Killing of Wichita Bar Owner Chuck Giles
For seven years, the family of Charles "Chuck" Giles waited for someone to answer for his murder. Now, Wichita police say they've finally charged the two men they believe killed him.
Giles, 55, owned Neighbor's Bar and Grill in north Wichita, a neighborhood spot where regulars and employees considered him family. On July 19, 2019, he closed up for the night and headed home. He never made it inside.
Giles was shot multiple times in the driveway of his home in the 2100 block of West Columbine Lane. The gunfire shattered the driver's side of his windshield. He died from his injuries, and investigators determined he'd been robbed before he was killed. Police suspected it was a targeted attack.
Despite security footage from nearby and public appeals for tips, the case went cold. Giles was eventually featured in the Kansas Cold Case Deck, a set of playing cards that highlights unsolved homicides and missing persons cases in hopes of generating new leads.
Wichita Police homicide detectives revisited the case in July 2026 and developed new leads, eventually presenting enough evidence to the Sedgwick County District Attorney to file charges. Benny Delgado, 36, and Jesus Deleon, 27, both of Wichita, were charged with premeditated first-degree murder.
Officers located Delgado at a business on North Hydraulic on Sept. 28 and took him into custody after a standoff and search warrant. Both men were expected in Sedgwick County District Court the following day.
"Seven years is a long time for a family to wait for answers and accountability," Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan said. "Our detectives never lost sight of Charles Giles or the people who loved him... This is what our community expects from us — to keep pursuing justice no matter how much time has passed."
Police have not publicly detailed what new evidence led to the charges, and the case is now headed through the court system.
