Brooklyn Roasting Company Recalls Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate In New York And New Jersey Over Botulism Risk

Brooklyn Roasting Company is recalling its Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate after the FDA identified a possible botulism risk associated with the product’s ambient storage conditions. The recall was classified as Class II by the FDA. No illnesses have been reported. The recalled cold brew was distributed in New York and New Jersey between April 1 and June 20, 2026. Approximately 3,000 gallons of product are included in the recall.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall covers Brooklyn Roasting Company Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate with best-by dates ranging from June 3 through September 3, 2026. The best-by date is printed on the product label. The concentrate was distributed between April 1 and June 20, 2026, through the company’s cafes, specialty coffee shops, independent markets, gourmet grocery stores, and online channels in New York and New Jersey. Brooklyn Roasting Company has not released a specific list of all retail locations that received the recalled product.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The FDA identified a potential risk associated with ambient temperature storage of the cold brew concentrate. When certain low-acid beverages like cold brew coffee are stored at room temperature rather than refrigerated, conditions can develop that allow Clostridium botulinum spores to grow and produce botulinum toxin. Botulism toxin attacks the nervous system and can cause difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, and paralysis — and in severe cases can be fatal. The Class II classification indicates that serious adverse health consequences are considered remote, but the FDA urges consumers not to consume the product regardless.

What Should You Do?

Do not drink the recalled Brooklyn Roasting Company Pasteurized Cold Brew Concentrate if your product has a best-by date between June 3 and September 3, 2026. Do not consume it even if it looks and smells normal — botulism toxin is odorless and colorless. Discard the product safely. Contact Brooklyn Roasting Company directly through their website at brooklynroasting.com for refund and return information. If you have consumed the product and experience difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, or unusual muscle weakness, seek emergency medical care immediately — do not wait.
