Snow Peak Takibi Propane Fireplace Inserts Recalled After Lava Rocks Explode

Snow Peak USA, Inc. of Portland, Oregon, is recalling its Snow Peak Takibi Fireplace Propane Inserts and Lava Rocks because the lava rocks can ignite and explode when heated, posing a risk of serious injury or death from burns and fire. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on October 8, 2026. About 100 units are affected. The inserts were sold online at Snowpeak.com in July 2026 for about $350.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall involves the Snow Peak Takibi Fireplace Propane Inserts and Lava Rocks, model ST-332-US. These accessories let Snow Peak’s Pack & Carry Fireplace in sizes L (ST-032) and XL (ST-034) run on propane instead of wood or charcoal. The propane insert comes with a detachable hose and a gas flow regulator that controls the flame with a twist of a knob, along with reddish brown lava rocks that sit inside the fireplace. The model number is printed on the product packaging and in the user manual. The Pack & Carry Fireplace itself is not included in the recall. The CPSC recall number is 27-021.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

When heated by the propane insert, the lava rocks included with the product can ignite and explode, which could send hot fragments toward anyone sitting around the fire. Snow Peak has received one report of the lava rocks exploding, which caused minor property damage. No injuries have been reported. The CPSC handled this as a Fast Track recall, meaning the company worked quickly with the agency to address the hazard.

What Should You Do?

Stop using the propane insert and lava rocks immediately. Contact Snow Peak for a full refund, and the company will send a prepaid shipping label to return both items. If you would rather keep the propane insert, Snow Peak will ship replacement lava rocks instead. Do not use the insert until the new rocks arrive. Dispose of the recalled lava rocks according to your local and state rules. Snow Peak USA can be reached toll-free at 888-424-4916 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific, Monday through Friday, or by email at info@snowpeak.com.
