Galanz Americas Recalls 121,680 Retro Refrigerators Sold At Home Depot And Amazon After One Death And 34 Fires

Galanz Americas is recalling approximately 121,680 Galanz Retro Refrigerators after internal electrical components were found to short circuit and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. The recall was announced July 30, 2026. The CPSC is aware of 34 reports of fires involving the recalled refrigerators, one of which resulted in a fatality according to the local fire department report. The refrigerators were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and on Amazon.com.

What’s Being Recalled?

The recall covers Galanz retro-style refrigerators sold in black, blue, red, and white, measuring approximately 58 inches high, 24 inches deep, and 21 inches wide, with a 7.6 cu. ft. capacity, three adjustable glass shelves, one drawer, and a top freezer compartment with a separate door. Only units with date codes ranging from December 2018 through December 2020 and one of the following five model numbers are included: BCD-215V-62H, GLR76TRDER, GLR76TBKER, GLR76TBEER, and GLR76TWEER. The model number, “Galanz” brand name, and date code in YYYYMM format are printed on a white label on the upper left-hand corner of the back of the unit. The refrigerators were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and on Amazon.com from January 2019 through September 2022 for between $330 and $520.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

The internal electrical components of the recalled refrigerators can short circuit and ignite, causing a fire inside the unit. The CPSC has received 34 reports of fires involving these refrigerators, one of which caused a fatality. These are retro-style appliances that were popular as a design statement and may be used in kitchens, dorm rooms, garages, and offices — locations where a fire can spread rapidly to nearby materials.

What Should You Do?

Unplug the recalled Galanz refrigerator immediately and do not use it again until a free in-home repair has been completed by a qualified technician. Contact Galanz Americas to schedule the free repair. Call 888-462-0579, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, email customerservice@galanzamericas.com, or register at GalanzRetroFridgeRecall.expertinquiry.com.
