G. L. Mezzetta Inc. has issued a voluntary recall for one lot of its popular Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat after a video circulating on social media appeared to show a pest inside a jar. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted the company’s announcement on September 26, 2026. The recall is limited to a single lot of 32-ounce jars. Because pickled peppers can sit in refrigerators and pantries for months, shoppers are being urged to check any jars they have at home.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall applies only to 32-ounce jars of Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat with SKU 10106328 and lot number 720106. The company says no other Mezzetta products or lots are included. Mezzetta has not publicly shared which states or stores received the recalled lot. The company says it has used its production and distribution records to identify every customer that received the product. It is working directly with those customers to remove the jars from store shelves.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The FDA lists the reason for the recall as a possible foreign object, specifically a pest contaminant in the jar. The recall followed a TikTok video posted on September 16, 2026, in which a woman said she found what she described as a dead baby mouse inside a jar of the peppers. Mezzetta has not confirmed what type of pest was involved. The company says it has contacted the consumer, asked for the jar so it can be examined, and is reviewing its production, sanitation, and food safety records. No illnesses or injuries have been reported, and the FDA has not yet assigned a risk classification to the recall.
What Should You Do?
Check your refrigerator and pantry for 32-ounce jars of Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat and look for lot number 720106. If you have a jar from the recalled lot, do not eat the peppers. Mezzetta asks consumers to contact its customer support team at CustomerSupport@Mezzetta.com for assistance. The company says it will update its recall notice if the scope of the recall or its guidance to consumers changes.
