Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. of San Carlos, Chile — the same supplier behind the ongoing GreenWise frozen berry E. coli recall at Publix — has now expanded its recall to include one specific lot of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend sold at Walmart. The expansion was announced September 2, 2026. This marks the first time the recall has extended to a Walmart product, bringing the E. coli contamination concern to one of the nation’s largest grocery retailers.
What’s Being Recalled?
The new expansion covers one lot of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend (a blend of strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries), 10 oz frozen bag, sold at Walmart stores. The specific lot code and UPC are available in the FDA’s recall notice at fda.gov — consumers should visit the FDA’s recall page for Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. to confirm whether their specific bag is included. No other Great Value frozen fruit products are affected.
Why Was This Recall Expanded?
The recall stems from the same E. coli O145:H28 contamination issue first identified in July 2026 in the GreenWise blueberries sold at Publix. Since then, the recall has expanded multiple times — first from a single lot to all lots of GreenWise blueberries and mixed berries (July 29), and now to a Walmart Great Value product sourced from the same Chilean supplier. Twelve people have been confirmed ill with E. coli O145:H28, four have been hospitalized. The FDA has placed the Chilean supplier on Import Alert 99-35, meaning future shipments from this grower can be detained at the border.
What Should You Do?
Check your freezer for Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend 10 oz bags and verify the lot code against the FDA’s recall notice at fda.gov. If your product matches, do not eat it. Discard it or return it to Walmart for a full refund. Freezing does not kill E. coli — even if the berries have been frozen the entire time, they should not be consumed.
