Tongyang Cycling is recalling approximately 215 Basecamp-branded bicycle helmets after the CPSC determined they violate the mandatory federal safety standard for bicycle helmets — the helmets do not meet impact attenuation, positional stability, and certification requirements, meaning they may fail to protect the user in a crash. The recall was announced September 17, 2026. No incidents or injuries have been reported.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers Basecamp bicycle helmets, model HT-10, sold in green and black in size M/L (fitting head circumferences of approximately 22.44 to 24.41 inches). The helmet has red padding, black and red straps, a black and red buckle, and a fit-adjusting knob at the back. “Basecamp” is printed on the sides and “HT-10” is on a label inside the helmet. The helmets were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from July 2024 through July 2026 for approximately $34. Note: the helmets also contain a button cell battery that does not bear the required warning labels — button cell batteries pose a serious ingestion hazard to children if swallowed.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The recalled helmets fail the mandatory federal safety standard for bicycle helmets because they do not meet required impact protection, positional stability, and certification standards. A helmet that fails impact attenuation requirements may not adequately absorb and disperse the force of a crash, leaving the user’s head exposed to serious or fatal injury.
What Should You Do?
Stop using the recalled Basecamp helmet immediately. Contact Tongyang Cycling for a full refund by emailing tongyangshangwuus@hotmail.com or visiting basecampbike.com and clicking “Recall.” You will be asked to cut the helmet straps and send a photo of the destroyed helmet to receive your refund.
