Decathlon America LLC of San Francisco is recalling about 1,150 Van Rysel GRVL AF Bicycles because the front lock nut can loosen during use, causing the front wheel to come loose or fall off. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on October 8, 2026, warning that the problem poses a crash hazard that could lead to serious injury or death. The bikes were sold at REI Co-op stores nationwide and online at REI.com from March 2025 through August 2026 for between $1,400 and $2,300.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall involves four adult gravel bike models designed for off-road gravel riding, road cycling, commuting, and bikepacking: the Van Rysel GRVL AF Sword Brown (model 8911304), the Van Rysel GRVL AF Apex Beige (model 8911305), the Van Rysel GRVL AF Sword Pink (model 8911308), and the Van Rysel GRVL AF GRX Black (model 8929130). The bikes were sold in sizes x-small through x-large. At REI, they were sold under names such as GRVL AF 2 Sword, GRVL AF 2 Apex, and GRVL AF 2 GRX. To check your bike, look for the barcode sticker on the frame near the bottom bracket. Recalled bikes have a Van Rysel Product ID that begins with the number 5. The full list of affected Product IDs and REI SKUs is posted on the CPSC website. The CPSC recall number is 27-017.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The front lock nut on the recalled bicycles can loosen while riding. Over time, that can cause the front wheel to loosen or dislodge completely, which could throw a rider off the bike. No incidents or injuries have been reported so far. The CPSC handled this as a Fast Track recall, a process used when a company works quickly with the agency to fix a hazard.
What Should You Do?
Stop riding the recalled bicycle immediately. Take it to your nearest REI Co-op location for a free inspection and repair of the front fork assembly. If you cannot get to an REI store, contact Decathlon Customer Service for help.
