Gearharts Fine Chocolates Recalls 4,703 Pieces Of Chocolate In 17 States After Broken Glass Found In Product

Assorted fine chocolates recall

Gearharts Fine Chocolates, Inc. of Charlottesville, Virginia, is recalling 4,703 pieces of its Gearharts Fine Chocolates after broken glass was discovered in a piece of finished product. The recall was initiated October 21, 2026, and classified as Class II by the FDA on October 16, 2026. No injuries have been reported. The recalled products were distributed to specialty retailers across 17 states. With best-by dates running from October 1 through October 21, 2026, this product is likely in pantries or has been recently purchased.

What's Being Recalled?

Two sizes of Gearharts Fine Chocolates are included: the 4 oz package with UPC 8 98111 00205 7, and the 8 oz package with UPC 8 98111 00206 4. All packages with best-by dates between October 1 and October 21, 2026 are affected. The best-by date is printed on the package. The recalled chocolates were distributed to specialty retailers in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

Why Was This Product Recalled?

A consumer discovered a piece of broken glass in a finished chocolate product, prompting Gearharts to initiate the voluntary recall. Glass fragments in food can cause lacerations to the mouth, throat, and digestive tract, broken teeth, choking, and internal injury. The FDA's Class II classification indicates that serious adverse health consequences are considered remote, but temporary or reversible adverse health effects are possible.

What Should You Do?

Check your pantry for Gearharts Fine Chocolates in 4 oz or 8 oz packages with best-by dates between October 1 and October 21, 2026. Do not eat the recalled product. Return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, or discard it. Contact Gearharts Fine Chocolates for questions at gearharts.com.
