Imperio Distribution LLC of Elgin, Ill., is recalling approximately 946 pounds of ready-to-eat Imperio beef jerky, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) says. The agency announced the recall on Oct. 24, 2026, and classed it as Class I, its highest risk level. FSIS says the jerky was produced without federal inspection. No confirmed illnesses or injuries have been reported.
What's Being Recalled?
The recalled jerky comes in 2 oz sealed bags and was packaged from January 2026 to October 2026. FSIS says it was sent to various retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. The agency did not name specific retailers. The affected products carry establishment number "1885" inside the USDA mark of inspection, which belongs to another facility. The affected products are:
- IMPERIO FUEGO BEEF JERKY (CARNE SECA), 2 oz bag, packaged January 2026 to October 2026, establishment number 1885
- IMPERIO ORIGINAL BEEF JERKY (CARNE SECA), 2 oz bag, packaged January 2026 to October 2026, establishment number 1885
- IMPERIO LIMÓN BEEF JERKY (CARNE SECA), 2 oz bag, packaged January 2026 to October 2026, establishment number 1885
Why Was This Product Recalled?
FSIS says the jerky was made without the benefit of federal inspection and was misbranded because of unauthorized use of a USDA mark of inspection. The agency found the problem during surveillance activities. According to FSIS, food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk. FSIS is concerned some product may still be in refrigerators, pantries or on retailer shelves.
What Should You Do?
FSIS urges anyone who bought these products not to eat them. Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Check the bag for the product name and the establishment number 1885.
