Prosperity Organic Foods, the Boise, Idaho-based maker of Miyoko's Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter, recalled 1,304 cases of the product over concerns about yeast, mold and possible E. coli contamination, according to news reports citing the FDA. The company began the recall on Sept. 11, 2026, and the FDA assigned it a Class II risk level on Oct. 23. No illnesses have been reported.
What's Being Recalled?
The recalled product is European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter in 8-ounce units, sold in six-packs. It is perishable and stored refrigerated or frozen. The FDA lists distribution in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Wisconsin. Market Basket notified its customers about the product in early September. The reports do not give a full retailer list, sale dates or a recall price. The affected product and lot codes are:
- European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter, 8 oz, UPC 857554005773, Lot 07871 (SBS carton), Best by Nov. 5, 2026
- European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter, 8 oz, UPC 857554005773, Lot 1007871 (corrugated shipping case), Best by Nov. 5, 2026
Why Was This Product Recalled?
Market Basket first told customers on Sept. 3 that the butter had high yeast results that did not meet quality standards. A Sept. 17 update said the product may potentially contain E. coli. The FDA classified the recall as Class II, meaning use of the product may cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, but the chance of serious harm is considered remote. The reports do not describe symptoms or name an E. coli strain. Miyoko's said on Facebook that it voluntarily pulled a very small number of products off shelves out of an abundance of caution, and that all potentially affected products have been removed from store shelves.
