The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says Bodum USA is recalling about 5.9 million Bodum French Press coffee makers with 8-cup and 12-cup replaceable glass carafes. The recall was announced on October 29, 2026. Bodum USA has identified 70 reports of carafes breaking during use, including 48 reports of burns to consumers.
What's Being Recalled?
The recall covers eight French press models with 8-cup and 12-cup replaceable glass carafes. The Bodum name is on the frame and inner lid of most models, and it is also engraved on the glass carafes along with product warnings. They were sold at Target, Walmart, and coffee and home goods stores nationwide, and online at Bodum.com, Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com and other retailers. Sales ran from 1974 through October 2026 for about $15 to $65. The products were manufactured in Portugal and Thailand, and the importer is Bodum USA, Inc., of New York, New York. The CPSC says more photos and model-identifying information are on the recall website. The affected models and sizes are:
- Bistro, 8-cup and 12-cup
- Brazil, 8-cup and 12-cup
- Caffettiera, 8-cup and 12-cup
- Chambord, 8-cup and 12-cup
- Crema, 8-cup and 12-cup
- Java, 8-cup and 12-cup
- Jesper, 8-cup and 12-cup
- Kenya, 8-cup and 12-cup
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The CPSC says the glass carafe can break unexpectedly during use if the glass is damaged or cracked. That includes damage from using a metal spoon to stir the coffee. The agency warns that a broken carafe poses a risk of serious burn injuries.
What Should You Do?
The CPSC says to stop using metal spoons or utensils to stir coffee in the glass carafe immediately, and not to use a cracked or damaged carafe. Contact Bodum to receive a free plastic Bodum stirring spoon and a warning label. The remedy is a repair, not a refund or replacement.
